CURTIS AND KING BIG WINNERS FRIDAY NIGHT AT ORLANDO SPEEDWORLD

Orlando SpeedWorld returned to action Friday night with Clean Cut Tree Service
of Melbourne putting on a pair of 50-lap races for the Strictly Stock cars
that were split into two classes: four cylinder and six/eight cylinder. Other
sponsors for the evening were Jack's Wrecker Service of Melbourne, Brevard
Rental of Melbourne, Old School Racing of Orlando and Gross Racing of Palm
    Bay.
Fifteen four-cylinder Strictly Stocks ran a pair of wild heat races that would
ultimately send four entries packing before the 50-lap headliner. The worst
incident saw James Skinner hard into the wall driver's side first but he was
OK other than being done for the night. Zachary Curtis and Bruce Gayton won
    the heats.
Eleven cars were left to run the feature with Shane Sutorus leading the way
until he was caught by Curtis who had started scratch on the field. The two
drivers began a great battle that saw Sutorus able to fend off everything
Curtis could throw at him until the first caution of the race flew on lap 20
as Jeff Gross and Brian Gayton tangled in turn one. Gayton made repairs and
continued but Gross was done for the night.
Curtis got the jump on the restart and took the lead only to see another
yellow flag on lap 22 when Bruce Gayton went for a spin courtesy of Paul
Cornelius' bumper. On the restart Brian Gayton spun in turn one to keep the
    caution out.
Curtis maintained the lead after the restart although Sutorus was keeping him
honest. Caution was displayed on lap 36 as Bruce Gayton lost a wheel going
down the back chute. He pitted for a new tire and wheel and returned to
    action.
Charles King, Jr. had made a run to third spot and was closing on Sutorus when
he had a tire go down putting him in the turn four wall on lap 41. King's car
wasn't badly damaged and he pitted for a new tire and returned to the race.
Curtis easily led the remaining nine laps in his Saturn to score the victory
with Sutorus second in his Saturn station wagon. King drove back through the
field to take third in a Chevy Cavalier followed by Bruce Gayton's Saturn and
the Nissan 240Z of Brian Gayton.
Eighteen six & eight-cylinder cars were intitially entered although a couple
had issues in practice and the heat races leaving a field of 16 for the 50-lap
feature. The twin heats went to Charles King, Sr.'s Hyundai and the Ford
Probe of Neil Kirby, both six-cylinder cars.
William Hindman started his big 1970s-era Chevy Monte Carlo from the outside
pole and grabbed the early lead as a huge dogfight started taking place behind
him. Everything was going smoothly until lap 15 when Luis Guillen got turned
around on the back stretch and spun. Jim Erb got involved as well but it was
Rich "Crash" Tyner living up to his name as he had nowhere to go and he
drilled Guillen's Pontiac destroying the front end of his Lincoln and putting
both he and Guillen in the pits for the night.
Hindman led one more lap after the restart but King was flying and took over
the point on lap 17. Caution flew for Jamie Sullivan's spin on lap 24 then
again on lap 29 as Bill Loomis exploded a right rear tire in turn two causing
    Sullivan to spin again.
The final 21 laps belonged to King as he pulled away for an easy win over
Hindman and Kirby. Shane Sutorus took fourth in a Ford Thunderbird with fifth
going to Warren Howie's Chevy Caprice.
Art Hendren was the only Super Stock to enter the evening's events so he took
a special challenge from several eight-cylinder Strictly Stock drivers.
Hendren started the "Super Stock" feature from the pole, but a lap down to
everybody else and would get the first place prize if he could pass all the
Strictly Stock cars, get on the lead lap and win which he accomplished thanks
to the event running all the way under green. Warren Howie took second
followed by Robert Skinner, William Hindman, Charles Ledford and Megan
    Matheny.
