PRO LATE MODELS GO 50 LAPS SATURDAY AT NEW SMYRNA SPEEDWAY
New Smyrna Speedway is back in action Saturday night with five divisions set
to go racing under the NASCAR Whelan All-American Series banner.
A rare July "cold front" won't actually drop the temperatures much for
Saturday but it will decrease the usual high rain chances, so it looks very
good that the show will be run this week without delays or cancelation.
The big draw will be the third 50-lap event on the schedule for the hotly
contested Pro Late Model division. Eight different drivers have visited
victory lane in eight races this year and the possibility of another new
winner may be in the works this week as several very good teams have yet to
take the checker first this year including Wildwood third-generation youngster
Ricky Anderson, Anthony Cataldi of Umatilla, Orange Park's Larry Blount, Colby
Clements of Vero Beach, Salt Springs hot shoe Jarrett Snowden, Daniel Miller
of Tavares and New Smyrna's own veteran Jerry "The Hammer" Symons.
Also competing will be the E-Modifieds with Jarrett Korpi of Deltona still the
man to beat, the Super Stocks, Mini Stocks and Strictly Stocks. There will
also be a special "Burn-Out" competition during intermission.
Pit gates open at 3 pm with division practice scheduled from 4-5:40 pm.
Grandstand gates open at 6 pm with Pro Late Model qualifying set for 6:20 pm
followed by racing at 7:30 pm starting with eight-lap heats for the Super
Stocks, Mini Stocks, E-Modifieds and Strictly Stocks.
Super Stocks start off the feature racing action following intermission with a
25-lapper followed by the 50-lap Pro Late Model event. Mini Stocks and
E-Modifieds will follow with 25-lap features topped off by a 20-lap run for
the Strictly Stocks.
Adult admission is $15 with all seniors (65+) and active military personnel
with ID admitted for $13. Rain checks from last week will be honored at no
extra charge. All kids 11 and under are free.
