SPORTSMAN VIE FOR 50 LAPS SATURDAY NIGHT AT NEW SMYRNA SPEEDWAY
New Smyrna Speedway returns with NASCAR Whelan All-American Racing Series
action Saturday night as the Sportsman cars and drivers take center stage for
a special 50-lap event paying $1,000 to the winner.
The Sportsman have just one race in the books for 2014 so far and that was
just last week when Osteen's Chris Brannon made a late charge to take the
victory. Brannon will have a ton of talent to deal with this week though as
the field looks to be pretty well stacked with top cars and drivers including
veteran campaigner Donny Williams, young charger Garrett Hill, Richard
Goodrich, Justin Starr, Daniel Conlin, Jr. and a host of others including
Timmy Todd, Jr. of Kissimmee he debuted a wild-looking new car last week.
Also in action will be the Pro Late Models, E-Modifieds, Super Stocks for
25-lap feature races and Strictly Stocks are slated for 20 laps on the
high-banked half mile.
Tyler Audie scored a somewhat surprising and popular Pro Late Model win on
opening night in a wild 50-lap affair that had a little bit of everything
happen to keep the fans entertained. Rookie driver Matthew Green was
impressive last week as he won the E-Modified feature in just his second E-Mod
race at New Smyrna.
Pit gates open Saturday afternoon at 3 pm with division practice slated from
4-6:10 pm. Grandstand gates open at 6 pm followed by qualifying for the
Sportsman cars at 6:20 pm. Racing starts at 7:30 pm.
Adult admission this week is $15 with a $2 discount for seniors (65+) and
military with valid ID. All kids 11 and under get in free. Tickets can be
purchased ahead of time on-line by going to www.newsmyrnaspeedway.org.
