I saw an excellent sprint car race tonight. The World of Outlaws ran Volusia and treated the packed stands to an outstanding 30 lapper. Donny Shatz started deep in the field, worked his way to the front, and then had it out with Cody Darrah and Darrin Pittman for the win. An outstanding race!
I was making small talk with the fans around me, and found that I was sitting in front of former Cup team owner Butch Mock. 40 years ago, we lived about a mile apart in Miami. In fact, his sister was there too, and she and I went to the same elementary school, but were one grade different. What a nice guy! We had a great chat. When I was a kid in the stands at Hialeah, Butch was one of the stars on the track, but soon moved on to bigger and better things in the sport.
