As much as we all love building/racing V8 Detroit steel, I do believe those days are coming to an end. Finding old cars that can be used for racing is starting to be like a treasure hunt. Even the metric cars are getting harder to find at a decent price, even for a shell. It used to be you could find something decent for about 500 to 700 bucks and begin your build. Now even most scrap yards either don't have them, or want way too much money for something that you can't be sure it's not twisted, (if they will sell you the car at all).
That is part of the reason our local tracks are in trouble. The grassroots guy can't afford to get started. I hate to say it, but the smaller, fwd cars are going to become more and more part of the local short track friday nite. Unless all we run are Mustangs, Camaros, Firebirds, the fwd's will be taking over slowly like termites.
As a fabricator, I admit that building fwd cars for racing is interesting, but I will miss the old stuff.
