Decided to head over to Volusia for their final night of racing for 2013 and the 50-lap UDLMS race... was not disappointed...
24 Late Models in the pits and 20 started... Was bad to see Scott Lagasse, Jr. unable to start after his engine went sour in his heat... car was bad fast again...
Again, why waste time doing single-car qualifying, then run heats... just doesn't make much sense and draws out the show...
The race was pretty good and the battle between Kyle Bronson and Ivedent Lloyd was outstanding before Kyle really got hooked up late... The most interesting thing was watching David Clegg... Just as the leaders were about to lap him, he took off like a rocket... Ended up one of the fastest cars on track at the end and took fourth...
Nice field of 27-28 Thunder stocks who put on a pretty good show... but why wait to run them last? I was tired and ready to go home, which I did during the six or seventh caution flag... Yet they run a four car Hobby Stock race, a five car Mini Stock race and a six car Gladiator race before the Thunder Stocks...
Actually, the show could have stood alone with just LM and Thunders as there were plenty of cars in those classes... the rest of the stuff was simply boring and I feel for the racers who actually do show up but don't have much to run with... The Modifieds did have nine cars and put on a decent show, but you thought there would have been more of them...
Decent crowd... Very disappointed that my favorite place to sit - the turn four grandstand - has been removed... The PA system is still awful and really needs some attention before Speedweek... They actually ran out of french fries before the features started... how can that happen?
Still had fun and got to sit with old friend Bo Davis and chat with "The Wild Child" who was flagging... Still the same old Doug!
