Lakeland Speedway owner Tony Amico decided to go stock car road racing a couple of years ago, looking for the opportunity to race on the highbanks at Daytona, the historic 12 hour of Sebring Course, Road Atlanta, Homestead and other premier courses on the schedule. That decision has started to pay off as Amico now finds himself at the top of the heap in the V8 StockCar series points battle after two events at Sebring and Carolina Motorsports Park. Tony seems to have smoothed out the rough edges of his hard charging style just a little bit lately, which has led to poles, wins and consistent finishes. Amico and his Tampa Bay Posse of George Lutich, Tom Graham and Jerry Douglas have added to competition the past two years with all having some success and a whole lot of fun. Florida Short Track racing legend Jimmy Cope has had a big hand in the recent success of the group. Not to be outdone, Cope's brother Mike, prepared the 2007 Championship winning V8 GTA class Monte Carlo of Jay Marshall.
