I'd venture to say,.. that a large number of my fellow members might not have ever heard of Betty Erde.Betty passed away at her home in " The Villages Fl."
She could out fly and out drive most of the men in her day. setting tons of records.,
!st woman to set a land speed record 315+ at on the salt as well as 105 mph and 145 mph on the sand in Daytona.
Betty was also a factory test driver for Chyrs. and Chev.,setting factory records for them. She owned 10 Corvettes at times,....at drove a Red vette at 82.
Betty was a world class stunt pilot,.. and an old friend of Big Bill France,she was one of the 1st pilots to fly NASCAR drivers to and from the tracks.Betty as very well known for cutting a ribbon,.. tied between two fishing rods with the prop of her plane 10 feet off the ground,.....UPSIDE DOWN.
