Saw the Daytona 500 in person for the first time since 1989 - could not pass up a free pair of tickets for row 24 of the Oldfield Box... really great view of the track. Took my youngest son for his first 500 live and in person...
Not the best one I've ever seen but certainly entertaining.. Bayne's win has to rank up there as a "feel good" win similar to when Tiny Lund won for the Wood Bros. back in '63 and as an upset close to that of Derricke Cope's win in '90 although I think this kid has a brighter future than Cope did...
Was impressed by Regan Smith too...
I wonder if the race would have been any good at all had there not been the unusual number of caution flags... The yellows kept things bunched up all day but there was one green flag period of around 15-20 laps and the field got spread out all over the track... Had the race run mostly under green, I think it would have been extremely boring...
I was fun to be at the track - just not fun getting there or going home - I'll be in front of the TV again next year...
