Several of you have been around Florida short track racing as long as I have and somewhere out there are somewhere has old photos of Jim McGuirk. He ran a series of coupes and late models from the mid 50s into the 70s and won in nearly all of them.
The car that interests me most was a black '34 Ford 5 window coupe that McGuirk built at Palm Cove Garage on north US 1 in Eau Gallie in about 1958. It was a number 2 and the sponsor was United Parts of Cocoa and Melbourne, a local auto parts house.
The car was flathead Ford powered originally but later got an inline 6 transplant but I'm not positive if it was a Ford or Chevy.
Other drivers of the car in various colors and with different numbers were Dick Joslin, Dumont Smith and Henry Pullen that I know of.
If anyone has any photos of the above mentioned car showing the United Parts sponsorship I would appreciate it if you would contact me. As a youngster I used to hang around the garage when the car was built and McGuirk was my first real racing hero and I badly want a photo of this car.
Thanks in advance for any leads.
