“The Most Amazing Racing Show You Have Ever Heard”

STA Media

darrellwaltrip.jpgThree-time former NASCAR Winston Cup champion and current television race commentator Darrell Waltrip capped an all star guest list on Real Racin’ USA’s tribute to the late Pete Orr this past Tuesday night.

Waltrip talked of his days being around Pete Orr and how he came to be his NASCAR sponsor when Pete went Busch Grand National racing. Vintage Waltrip humor came through loud and clear as he opined on the “old days” and event the kids making racing headlines today.

Another NASCAR veteran, Busch Grand National Champion David Green, joined us from his home in Concord, North Carolina to share stories and his admiration for Pete Orr. Pete’s son Bobby Orr, who is an up and coming crew chief these days, was a guest host with Rick Anges, Jack Smith, and Scott McAllister. Having Bobby deeply involved in the show made it a very special occasion. As was evident in the segment with David Green. You will just have to listen as this writer, rarely at a loss for words, comes up empty this time which you will understand after you have heard this show.

When Pete Orr died, the rules for health insurance changed, and they changed because of Pete Orr. Florida State Senator Bill Posey joined us from the Capitol to discuss his fight to change the laws to protect people from the unscrupulous agents that did irreparable harm to the Orr family. The “Pete Orr Insurance Fraud Law” now adds a heavy layer of protection for consumers thanks to the work of Senator Posey and others, and brought a sense of justice to the Orr Family. It must be noted Senator Posey has been a track owner and still races when he gets the chance.

The remainder of the star studded racers paying tribute to Pete Orr included David Russell, Travis Kittleson, Justin Drawdy, B.J. McLeod, Lee Faulk, Scott Reeves, Mike Cope, Leroy Porter. Many others could not get in due to time constraints and jammed phone line.

peteorr.jpgShort track racing lost a dear friend in the year 2002.

Pete Orr had been a tough competitor, a champion race car driver in every respect, a teacher, a mentor and to many in the racing community, simply a friend.

When Pete Orr died in November 2002 he left behind a short track racing legacy and ironically he continued to help other people long after he left us. The “Pete Orr Bill”, the Florida legislation instigated by State Senator Bill Posey (also a noted racer), has put away some scoundrels from the insurance business and helped to protect many people in the future. The bill deals with health care fraud. It was this very fraud that severely harmed the Orr family in the wake of Pete’s losing battle with cancer.

Bill Posey will be one the guests on the special Pete Orr Tribute night on the Real Racin’ USA show this week. Noted NASCAR driver David Green will also be a guest on the show, joining Travis Kittleson, B.J. McLeod, Mike Cope, Lee Faulk, David Russell, Don Nerone, Leroy Porter and others in paying tribute to Pete Orr.

Pete’s son Bobby Orr will be live with us at the Snook River Grill, hopefully to be joined by his good friend Rick Bristol. Bobby is very involved in stock car racing and is carrying on the family traditions as a crew chief, with ample skills learned from his legendary father.
