Beginning January 7th the long running racing show Trackside Tonite will be available On-Demand to fans through a partnership with Real Racin’ USA. The show airs every Monday night on WNDB 1150 AM in the Daytona radio market in the 8-9 PM time slot. Trackside Tonite is a listener driven motorsports talk show highlighting achievements of local drivers at all of Florida’s short tracks as well as breaking NASCAR news.

Trackside Tonite was founded in 1997 by Randy Dye, who was at the time, racing in the Fascar ranks in the late model division at New Smyrna Speedway. Since it’s inception Randy has gone through his share of co-hosts from the likes of Don Nerone to Dick Westfall. Two years ago Joe Linebarier came to the show as a guest speaking about Volusia Speedway Park, and never left the studio!

“Volusia Speedway Park’s flagman, Billy Ausburn, came on the program shortly after my arrival and we all realized that he added the right ingredients to complete the trio”, stated Linebarier.

Linebarier, making his return to Volusia Speedway Park for his 14th season as the track announcer, said “Randy Dye has revived his passion for racing and will begin the 2008 season with an all new late model effort at New Smyrna Speedway.”

Billy Ausburn will climb down from the starters stand at Volusia to become the race director in 2008. Weekly call in guests on Trackside Toniteinclude Rick Eshelman with the WoO latemodels and many more interesting characters from the world of motorsports.

As Trackside Tonite begins its second decade of broadcasting, Real Racin’ USA will help to expand the shows listenership and reach by providing On-Demand services. This means that fans will be able to listen to the Trackside Tonite shows anytime day or night by logging onto Real Racin’ USA and either downloading the shows to their computer or I-pod type device, or using the instant-on Flash Media player available on the site. Each show will be archived and available to the public beginning January 7th.

Trackside Tonite joins a growing slate of motorsports broadcasts from Real Racin’ USA, which includes Straightlining With Stevie, ASA Fastlane, Inside Florida Racing, Real Racin’ USA Live! and the coming debut ofNASCAR Fastalk. “Trackside Tonite adds a great new dimension to the entertainment value we are working hard to bring to motorsports fans”, Real Racin’ USA co-founder Jack Smith said. He added, “Trackside Tonite is an icon in the Florida radio markets and maybe we can help Randy and Joe and WNDB expand their reach a bit.”

The 2008 program schedule for Trackside Tonite begins on Monday January 7 at 8:00 in Daytona Beach, FL. and can be heard live on WWW.WNDB.AM.

Cannon Ready For 2008

December 6, 2007

By Jack Smith

scottycannon2.jpgThe big buzz in the IHRA in the last few weeks is the news that Scotty Cannon Sr. is returning to his real love in drag racing, that being the Pro Modifieds.  Scotty joins his son in 2008 with both behind the wheel of identical 1968 Firebirds in the IHRA Pro Modifieds.

“I’m probably going to push for a suggestion of maybe my flames being just a little bit different, so maybe we won’t try to get in different cars or something of that nature”, Cannon said on the “Straightlining With Stevie” show Wednesday. He also pointed out that team owner Evan Knoll wanted the cars identical, “He said if you want to run a father-son team, when you pull up to the starting line, he wants it to where you basically can’t tell the difference.”

scottycannon-promod.jpgStevie Letempt talked with Cannon for about 20 minutes on the weekly drag racing show and covered a lot of ground with one of the sports most popular racers. It doesn’t take long to take a liking to the straight talking Cannon, who tells it like it is, and gets right to the point. “I call the tech department in the IHRA the police, and we are the gangsters”, pausing for effect, “because we’re always trying to get away with everything we can and you know Mike Baker and them do a good job and they’re trying to keep the classes as even as they can.”

Cannon has won six Pro Modified titles in the IHRA and with his son Scott Cannon Jr. taking the IHRA Pro Modified Championship in 2007, the team will certainly be making headlines all year in 2008.
