Mark Whitener Wins UDLMCS at North Florida
|
By Jack Smith
The United Dirt Late Model Challenge Series returned to action Saturday night at North Florida Speedway with 31 cars vying for starting spots in the 50 lap feature.
The grandstands started filling in the mid-afternoon, and by race time a great crowd was on hand at the Lake City track. Tyler Ivey was fastest during qualifying but started 4th after a pill draw to invert the top four spots. Mark Whitener started on the pole with points leader Johnny Collins outside.
Whitener was never seriously challenged and took his second win of the year in the UDLMCS. The race was marred by numerous cautions, but fans saw a constant battle for second place between Collins and Ivey. A hard luck award might go to Ivey. After a hard fought race he spun his #47 on turn 4 of the last lap to fall from 2nd to 14th. Collins was second, followed by Keith Nosbisch, Adam Bedenbaugh and Rick Pratt.
Pratt had to drive from the rear of the field to gain the top five finish, having been sent to the back for causing an early race caution.
Full race reports, and more news and notes to follow.
