Steven Brooks New Lenox, Illinois (02/04/2008): During the 2007 ASA Late Model Series Awards Banquet Ceremony, Steven Brooks was sitting with his crew, family, and friends taking in the atmosphere that was the Awards Ceremony. It was the first time the 19-year-old had taken part in such an extravagant event.
When the special awards were being presented, Brooks watched with anticipation as several of his fellow ASALMS contingent went up to receive there accolades that were all voted on by his peers. When the time came to present the 2007 ASALMS Most Improved Driver Award, Brooks watched and wondered who would get the prestigious award.
The most surprised person in the cavernous Banquet Hall was Brooks himself as it was announced that Brooks was the winner of the 2007 ASALMS Most Improved Driver Award! "It was really an honor to win the most improved driver award at this years banquet especially because it was voted on by our fellow competitors." Brooks stated after the honor had sunk in.
Now Brooks and his family owned racing team will jumpstart their 2008 racing season and prove that they are worthy of the award bestowed upon them at the awards banquet. The New Lenox, Illinois pilot has entered the 42nd annual World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing in the Crate Late Models division at the New Smyrna (FL) Speedway.
The Crate Late Models portion of 2008 Florida Speedweeks will run from February 8-15, 2008 at the fast 0.500 Mile High-Banked Paved Oval in Samsula, Florida. Although Brooks hasn't been to New Smyrna before, he hopes to use his experience gained from the 2007 season of heading to new tracks as an advantage.
