ASA Late Model News Update

Podium finish for Kris Stump in the Crate Late Model Challenge 100 at SpeedFest 2008 at the USA International Speedway
West Bend, Wisconsin (01/30/2008): Kris Stump and the 5K Motorsports team recorded a strong second place finish in the 2008 Speedfest 100 lap feature this past weekend at Lakeland, Florida.
Stump and the 5K Motorsports team were fast right from the start as they scored some of the fastest laps throughout the practice and test sessions on Friday and Saturday.
The Crate Late Model Challenge 100 lap main event was scheduled for Saturday night but Mother Nature prevailed. With rain continuing even after 11:00p.m. local time, the race was rescheduled for Sunday afternoon January 27th.
The 5K Motorsports team and driver Kris Stump thought their chances were pretty good going into the 100 lap event and when the green flag fell he wasted little time moving forward into the top three positions from their fifth place starting position.
"The 5K guys gave me a great car." Stated an excited Kris Stump. "This is a great start to our 2008 season". Kris did a nice job today" stated 5K owner Ken Wills! "I'm really happy for the team and appreciate all of their hard work".

Support from the Wolverine State have always been a staple of the series and continues to do so as the Lexington, Michigan based series heads into its' Sixth season.
One of the constants of the ASALMS dating back to the days as the original USPRO Cup Series in 2003, is the relationship between two brothers that are synonymous with revolutionizing the sport of Auto Racing in the entire United States with the Template Body / Crate Engine package; ASALMS Co-Founder / President, Ron Varney and his older Brother (Yes Older Brother), Bob Varney.
Orange County Speedway returns to the 2008 ASA Late Model Series Southern Division Schedule on August 2, 2008 with the Orange County 125
Lexington, Michigan (01/30/2008): As the ASA Late Model Series Southern Division Presented by GM Performance Parts has firmly planted there roots in the Southeast section of the United States, several tracks have thoroughly enjoyed the exciting action that the ASALMS Southern Division brings to each host facility.
One of those tracks has been a staple on the ASALMS Southern Division Schedule since the Southern Division was formed and began during the 2006 season. It only makes sense that if something is working, keep doing it and the ASALMS agrees with that philosophy.
The Sixth Race of the season and the Official Halfway points of the 2008 schedule for the ASALMS Southern Division Cars and Stars will be at a very familiar track; The fast 0.375 Mile High-Banked Paved Oval of the Orange County (NC) Speedway, located just South of the North Carolina/Virginia state line and North of Raleigh/Durham in Rougemont, North Carolina.
The Orange County 125 is set for Saturday August 2, 2008. Joining the ASALMS Southern Division will be the OCS Regular Divisions of Limited Sportsmen, Grand Stocks, Pure Stocks, and Southern Ground Pounders. The Orange County 125 Entry Form will be available beginning on Wednesday July 16, 2008.
"Our races there in 2006 and 2007 have been very exciting and I'm very happy that we've established a little bit of a tradition with our South teams and the Orange County Speedway." Added ASALMS Co-Founder/President, Ron Varney. "It's a very nice facility and the entire staff treat us very well and that makes it really nice to travel down to tracks like that!" Varney said.

School is in session for 13-year-old Logan Ruffin as the Volunteer State teenager finishes 11th in the Crate Late Model Challenge 100.
Brentwood, Tennessee (01/30/2008): The Nashville, Tennessee based Total Performance Driver Development Team and Crew Chief, Chuck Moores knew going into the 2008 season that their star driver, 13-year-old Logan Ruffin would be learning a lot during his first full season in a Late Model.
Especially when the decision was made to travel with the cars and stars of the ASA Late Model Series Presented by GM Performance Parts. Some of the most talented drivers in the United States race in the Lexington, Michigan based series and Moores knew that his teenage driver would be "Learning on the Fly" in those first few early season races.
Ruffin learned enough to fill 10 notebooks in his first live ASALMS competition, which was in the running of the Crate Late Model Challenge 100, which was part of SpeedFest 2008 at the fast 0.750 Mile Progressively Banked Paved Oval of the USA (FL) International Speedway in Lakeland, Florida.
"We went into this race very excited because of our run at Lanier. I had never been on a track as big as USA International Speedway before, so it was a neat experience." Remarked the Brentwood, Tennessee teenager as he reflected on his first experience on a track bigger than a ˝ mile.
For the 2008 season, Ruffin, driving for Total Performance Driver Development, will make a run at the Pat Bourdow Memorial Rookie of the Year title in the ASA Late Model Series Challenge Division as well as the freshman title in the ASALMS Southern Division.

Meet Terry Bogusz
Lexington, Michigan (01/30/2007): The newest feature on the pages of the ASA Late Model Series Presented by GM Performance Parts Websites; The new "Meet the ASALMS Teams" is still a very popular segment.
All in an effort to get to know each and every one of the pilots who will call the ASALMS home for the upcoming 2008 season, 2008 Registered Teams within the ASALMS are featured in a more relaxed setting.
An overwhelming number of teams have contacted the ASALMS Home Offices in Lexington, Michigan on how to be featured on this new and very popular feature.
For the next segment of "Meet the ASALMS Teams", attention is now turned to the new cars and stars of the USPRO Cup Series. 35-year-old Terry Bogusz, who calls Shelby Township, Michigan home is the first USPRO Cup Series driver to be featured in this new and popular internet feature.
The former Head Tech Director of the original USPRO Cup Series in 2003, has been racing the past four seasons part-time in the Bollhoff Rivnut Super Pro Series as well as the last two seasons running full-time at the Auto City (MI) Speedway in the tracks Super Stocks division, which is modeled after the rules and regulations of the ASALMS.
