Pollack - Still Speeding Along

 Wayne Pollack, former AHDRA drag racer, is still out there running big numbers. His main speed/power release these days involve the MAXON Mile, an ECTA (East Coast Timing Association) Land speed meet held at Maxon, NC, just a short distance from his old record holding stomping grounds, Rockingham Dragway, Rockingham, NC.
Near as I can tell, the main difference in what Wayne’s doing now is the distance. Wayne gave up the big launch g force (not good on his ailing backbone) 1/4mile ride for a one mile wild wide open 1 mile run-- good for every bone in his body. Pollack currently holds nine over 200 mph records in land speed, the top being 255 mph.
The ECTA is an East Coast opportunity to get out and run like the wind on a converted airstrip, no salt but the same concept as Bonneville.
Pollack’s most recent venture at Maxon resulted in the following report from Wayne, ”I ran the Maxton Mile October meet (10/20/07). First pass was just motor (145 rear wheel horse power), set a record at 161 mph. Second pass started to spray the nitrous and alky (238 RWHP), pulled like a freight train! The alky pump lost the armature seal and failed, done for the weekend. I felt fairly confident that she would have run 200. This is a street ridden FXR style twincam, runs on pump gas Harley (Put 250 street miles during break in). This was the last meet of the year, we'll be running this coming April.”
