Records Fall at NHRA Cavalcade of Stars
The inaugural NHRA Lucas Oil Cavalcade of Stars presented by Budweiser and the Ohio Lottery is now in the history books, along with several drag racing records. Drivers earned their share of cash and contingency awards worth more than $200,000 at the event which was the first NHRA Division 3 race of the season.

Defending Lucas Oil Top Alcohol Dragster champion and number one qualifier Bill Reichert of Owosso, Mich., defeated Dave Hedges Jr. of Plainwell, Mich., with a pass of 5.268 seconds at 275.73 mph. Hedges came off the line a tenth of a second quicker but Reichert came from behind to beat Hedges to the finish line by two tenths. Reichert also set a track record for speed in that final round victory. Reichert also set the track elapsed time track record of 5.256 seconds in the semifinal round. This was Reichert’s second win this season, following a victory at the O’Reilly NHRA Spring Nationals in Houston earlier this year.

That final round also produced new track records for both speed and ET. Manzo drilled the 19-year-old Wilkerson off the starting line for an easy victory. This marked Manzo’s second win this season following a victory at the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Southern Nationals in Atlanta.
