Coughlin Bows Out Early at Southern Georgia Motorsports Park

JEGS Mail Order Racing
VALDOSTA, Ga. -- John Coughlin’s hopes for a double victory at the Division 2 Lucas Oil Series this weekend event at South Georgia Motorsports Park ended prematurely. Coughlin was preparing to race his JEGS Mail Order entries in Super Stock and Top Dragster in the rain-delayed event, but left the track and returned to his home in Delaware, Ohio due to a family emergency. Coughlin’s son, Cody, was hospitalized after suffering a broken leg in an ATV accident. He is expected to make a full recovery.
“I hate to miss a race, especially after all the work my team did on our cars, but there are some things that are more important that drag racing and my family is certainly at the top of that list,” said Coughlin. “As a parent, you can’t get home soon enough when you get the news that one of your children has been hurt, but thankfully, Cody is a tough kid and he’s going to be just fine.”
While John returned home, his younger brother, Mike remained at South Georgia Motorsports Park, where he posted a third round finish in Top Sportsman behind the wheel of his JEGS.com Cobalt. Mike gained a slight lead against Matthew Buck, but broke out with a time of 6.92-seconds on his 6.93 dial-in. Buck matched his dial-in time with a 7.32-second run.
“We had a really close race, I just happened to run a little too quick,” Mike said. “Overall, I have no complaints. The car ran extremely well and my driving wasn’t too bad. Obviously, we’re all concerned for Cody and John and the rest of the family, but it looks like everything will be okay. That was the best news we heard all weekend.”
